Made of hand cut strips of silk sari fabric, the strands are connected and vary in color and pattern -- each skein is always one of a kind! This versatile ribbon can be used to knit, crochet, make jewelry, weave...whatever your creative mind can imagine! This purchase will be for the two (2) skeins shown in these photos.

These yarns are hand made by women living in the Indian countryside. The major source of income there is agriculture and farming. However, farming only keeps locals employed for about 3-4 months a year. As such, creating these yarns gives women a means by which they can financially support themselves and their families. Ten community leaders coordinate collection of the silk sari remnants, train local women and distribute materials to various locales so that this unique piece of work can come to be.

Yardage - You will receive the two (2) skeins of mixed color recycled silk sari ribbon pictured in this listing. The skeins weighs approximately 100 grams (~3.5 oz) each and have a length of 45 meters (~49 yards) each. You will receive a total of approximately 98 yards. Recommended needle size is 15-20.

Composition - 90% silk, 10% other fibers. Made up of the remnants of silk sari fabric. There are loose ends that peek out from the strand -- I find that these add uniqueness to the final woven project.

Care Instructions - Dry clean or hand wash in gentle detergent, lay flat to dry. No machine wash or dryer.
